I don't know how many people are willing to discuss VN's due to their generally pornographic nature, but here goes.

The Devil on G-String [18+]: (Mystery/Action)

Not sure if the pun was intended but G-String refers to the violin lol.

This one has to be my all time favorite. The characters are interesting, the story is exciting, and the twist was unexpected.

One thing to note, you have to option to pursue a number of girls but doing so will cut the story short. The points of no-return are fairly obvious and if you've 'played' a VN before you'll know to save often.

It made me pick up a violin again lol, all around excellence.

Highly recommended.

Schooldays HQ [18+ Extreme Content/Guro]: (School drama)

TBH I only played this one because the Badend's are legend among the VN community. However it stands on it's own with unique semi-animated scenes and it got me into it's story.

The famous badend's are surprisingly hard to get without a guide, you have to be a really specific type of jerk to get them.

I use the term badend loosely here because even the best ending is fairly sad.

The anime was entertaining and gave birth to the Nice Boat meme. It's finale was dark and was a unique badend somehow more shocking than the game despite being cut for TV.

Recommended.

Fate/Stay Night [18+, PG version available]:

I enjoyed the anime but the game was too much. I made it halfway through before I'd had enough.

EDIT: Deardrops was a bit weak but still entertaining.

Yup, Devil on G-string is one of the bst VN that i've enjoyed. Usagi route on the first playthrough. Here's my other favorites.

 

Sengoku Rance (Strategy/RPG) - MC is interesting and a big pervert.

 

Kamidori Alchemy Meister (Strategy/RPG) - This one is another VN that I enjoyed. My playthrough time with this was over 300+ hours.

 

Katawa Shoujo - Yeah, this one is also good. About your encounters of girls with disability.

 

Maji de watashi ni koi shinasai - Enjoyed both game and anime. There's a sequel but haven't have the chance to play.

Lol, I ended up doing all the routes before Usagi.

First play through I was like wtf, it just cut the story short after the first route.

If you enjoyed the anime I highly recommend the VN. Only the HQ version is in full English but there are also a bunch of system enhancements like a route tree so you can go back to specific decisions and take an alternate route easily.

I'll have to play through some of these :o

Wanko to Kurasou was pretty decent (first VN I played).

It's mostly pornographic but the characters are easy to get attached to and gets pretty depressing at some points.

Definitively not for under 18, but worth playing through.

Kinda short.

Which route did you like best? For me, True route, best ending I hoped for. Second is Shiratori, Third is the MC's sister and last is the classmate. Kinda forgot their name.

I liked the true route too lol.

My favourite characters were Shiratori and Kanon. I didn't really like Usami until I played her route and learnt her backstory but she turned out to be awesome. Tsubaki was just plain boring, I didn't like her or her route lol.

Well I just finished Katawa Shoujo - Rin's route.

I'd been avoiding it firstly because I assumed it was 4chan shitting out something terrible again and secondly because I'd seen my gf play it and assumed the whole thing would be as poor quality as the backgrounds.

I realize now I was an idiot for not playing it sooner.

I enjoyed every minute of it and while the narrative was a bit drawn out at times it was forgivable.

The subject matter was handled extremely well, it would be wrong to dismiss this vn purely because the characters have some form of disability.

Worth noting is the option to turn explicit content off, though you would be an idiot to do so. I'm not sure about the other routes but with Rin the scenes are important. I can't explain it with words and even if I could they wouldn't do it justice.

It's NOT the disjointed porn scenes thrown in like in alot of vn's, trust me.

The only difficult decision I have now is whether to play the other routes or not. The completionist in me is upset that I'm only 33% done but I only feel that taking the other routes will somehow cheapen the experience.

I rate it highly.

Visual novels are distinguished from other game types by their extremely minimal gameplay. Typically the majority of player interaction is limited to clicking to keep the text, graphics and sound moving (most recent games offer "play" or "fast-forward" toggles that make even this unnecessary).

You might be more interested in Dating Sims or an RPG hybrid.

Catherine was entertaining in a fucked up way but that was for PS3.

My experience with these are limited unfortunately, I prefer the minimalist nature of VN's.

i had one for the PS3 i forgot what it was called but basically ur in high school or college never found out lol  and ur a guy and you have to make all the girls u encounter fall in love with you and u get to have sex with them and all that stuff  it has very good visual effects and sounds ^_^ plus u get to dress up the girls how u want them and then slowly take things off  and mess around ^_~ and there end of them game something happens and all the girl get into a fight or something and u have to pick one to date only then u start to build a relation ship and have more intimate encounters with her and eventually get married ending the game XD  i remember only doing 4 of the girls  i never got to see the other 5 endings >,>  i did my faves first XD  the shy girl, the popular girl the athlete, and the class president,  its a japanese style / anime game  sort off RPG but not really its weird oh its japanese language only i think  my friend helped me turn on the english subs  but yea i forgot the name of it sry T_T

Failed in my second attempt to play through of Katahane.

Maybe it's just me but it's f*cking slow.

First attempt was last year, I only got two hours in before giving up.

This time I gave it a longer go, but I've had like 3 decisions (which seem to do nothing) and the story is weak.

If anyone's played longer and it gets better or something let me know, but it really doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Art is nice, but can't hold a game.

Would not recommend.
