You shouldn't have any problems leveling your pet, just kill monsters anywhere from 15 levels below to 15 levels above you. It only gets 1 exp per kill but if you want to level it fast, you can go to a bunch of lowbie monsters that are <15 levels below you and AoE the poop out of them.
