If you want to be a Paladin, the recommended classes are either Rune Knight or Gladiator. And since you want to be 1h, I'd say Rune Knight since Gladiator gives mostly 2h skills. Only benefit you'd get from Gladiator is the passives and Fighter Heart. Whereas, on the other hand, Rune Knight also gets decent passives, but it also gets auras.
